I'm thinking of opening a general store on Blogland Lane, but the truth is I'd rather start a non-profit agency that can help some cause, some effort, some purpose, some person, or some family--that can make a difference in some small way on Blogland Lane and in the world outside our magical neighborhood.
.
Anybody interested in putting our collective heads together and coming up with some way to GIVE? Last Christmas I collected almost $ 200 for art supplies for a 12 year old girl named Lily, who was facing a dire holiday.
.
I have an idea or two, but I'd love to hear yours. We're an international neighborhood. We're a fortunate, creative bunch. I'm willing if you are. And the thought of a little non profit storefront on Blogland Lane, well, it has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
Hmmmm. . . Bear is thinking deeply. You could have a general store, and include in it crafts and goodies from third-world countries, whose artisans would be fairly paid for their work.
ReplyDeleteMeet two challenges at the same time?
Yes, excellent idea kj. I'd been thinking about charities and donations myself, but hadn't got much further than wondering how, after someone has created/donated something, to get money transferred to the right place! Still thinking....
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I am a little short on cash, but very craft oriented. I'd be happy to donate some bits and pieces to raise money for a good cause.
ReplyDeleteOh...you could open a Wishes and Dreams store! The only thing is...we would actually be able to fulfil a dream or two.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea, KJ, in whichever form it takes.
Thinking.....thinking.....will get back to you by Tuesday-I need to figure out my personal good deed this year too.
ReplyDeleteI think the idea is excellent!
ReplyDeletePaypal is always an easy (and trustworthy)
way to transfer funds; once a project is decided.
So many needs abound,,,my head swims!
I would love it if it were someone somebody actually knows that we could help, like you did kj. Possibly donations of things AND money. I'd like to see it actually go directly to the cause, and not get put to administrative costs in a large organization.
after every one who wants to weighs in, i am going to make 3 or so suggestions for a worthy cause we can support together. i totally love the idea. put the non profit on the map somewhere, middle. we'll call it the blogland lane wishes and dreams foundation(thanks marion, that's a great name)
ReplyDeletewe might collect $$, or prayers, or good deeds, or ......
please keep ideas coming. we can turn this one into a blogland reality.
xoxoxo!
Such a generous idea KJ. I admire your courage. I would be happy if can be helpful in any way. Please do let me know.
ReplyDeleteKeep it up buddy!
I'm afraid I am rather on the take just now. My wife was awarded a prize of 5.000 euro so that she can buy two sports wheelchairs for her badminton initiative for wheelchair users. She is a certified badminton trainer, and she holds a special certificate to teach disabled sportspeople. Normally you don't get two sports wheelchairs for 5.000 euro, one costs up to 2.800. But she drives a hard bargain and managed to get two. She is looking for funding for another two now, so I'm more on the take than on the give.
ReplyDeleteBut I couldn't resist a good cause anyway, I wish you the best of luck.
I think it a very good idea and you can count me in, but only for small and well controlled things. I hate big organizations with a lot of hot shots driving enormous cars... ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhatever you decide on, count me in.
