i am so excited that you will be reading my book. you know, it's only been a year or so that i actually feel like a writer. having the book published has been so wonderful for me.

ReplyDeleteI've been studying a philosophy book today. Fun stuff (well, I use the term fun loosely). Then I started watching a disaster flik. Love action movies.
marion, me too. i;ve written always but only through blogging have i gone "public" with it. i write poems too. i've found that most of "us" don't just write or paint, but do several creative things. i really do love your writing. it is compelling.
ReplyDeleteannie, my novel is a love story called 'the light stays on'. so far it is getting good reviews and i admit i am in love with every part of it.
ReplyDeleteI agree kj. Blogging has made me spread my wings and try several things over the last five years. I finally settled into photography and writing. And like you, my writing went public with my blog. The mood for it sort of comes and goes but it's always sitting there waiting.

ReplyDeleteI'm reading Dean Koontz right now. "Dark Rivers of the Heart" Don't much get into S. King but Koontz really keeps my attention. I love how he hands his characters and the structure he brings to his stories.
know what i love about blogging and writing? i never feel alone. i always have something to do that makes me happy because i can write.

ReplyDeletemarion, i live in massachusetts, about two miles from boston. for 20 years i lived right outside of boston. i've lived in germany & oklahoma too. what about you? what is it like where you live? do you have "artist-types" in your life, outside of our lane, of course?!

I live in the central valley of california. Socialable person but don't mind being solitary either. Love the diverse people I've met blogging and the clarity it has brought to me to focus on my talents.
ReplyDeleteBlogging has made me redefine the meaning of the word friendship. There is a huge world of real people that we may never meet f2f but they are friends, nevertheless.
i don't read as much as i wish i did these days. my favorite book of all time is the mists of avalon. marion, it has the same mystery in a way as your writing...
ReplyDeletei'll be honest: i struggle with loving and caring about people i will not meet, cannot have a cup of coffee with. but i have to agree, annie--the friendships are real.
ReplyDeleteI so wish I could stay longer here and visit but my witching hour is fast approaching. I have to leave in about ten minutes and I still haven't freshened up since this morning. It's been really nice. I look forward to visiting again and I will say HI at your blogs too.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, where did I get the impression you were from Maine? Of course it's Massachusetts. I remember when you lived in Germany you were cold for two years.
ReplyDeleteI was born in Hamburg, Germany and we emigrated to a small town on Vancouver Island when I was 5. I grew up there, lived in Vancouver, Penticton, Port Alberni, Qualicum Beach and now 150 Mile House, all in BC.
There are many writers here; but since I've just moved here almost two years ago, I've not sought them out as much as I could have. It takes time to find my bearings!
So I'm happy to have the very creative people on Blogland lane to inspire me!

ReplyDeleteit does take time. i wish i had a best friend who lived near me, who could drop by like you and i are doing now. i don't have dozens of friends but the ones i do have have my back and i theirs.
I miss my friends and family for sure. This has been a very solitary two years for me and you know what? I've learned a lot about myself as a result! It's all good...just wish there was someone close by to share stuff with.
ReplyDeletemarion, it took me a while to figure out that the characters write the story. i am just the recorder, in some real way. it's an amazing process.

ReplyDeletei am in a very intensive memoir group--just four writers and it is so difficult to write the truth (secrets be damned) while thinking that some things are not yours to say. the teacher says, 'you HAVE to write it. you might edit it later and not publish it, but you have to write it'

what do think about our blogland lane. sometimes i wonder why only 4 or 5 people comment at a time and then i see the number of followers and i get excited all over again. the posts are amazing.

I know it is disheartening sometimes, I know. But I wonder if there are lurkers out there. Sometimes people just don't know what to say. And maybe they're wondering what the hell I'm doing, hahahahaha
ReplyDeleteyou know, marion, i like to think of myself as a teacher, so you hit a chord when you say that. and it's funny when you say i am full of joy because i've spent the last year crying in my soup. but i WANT joy. and i want to be passionate. i don't want to give that up, even if i find myself traveling too fast and too deep sometimes....
ReplyDeleteIt's ok to cry in your soup...then you know what joy is when you find it. And if you don't feel you really are full of joy and passion, then fake it till you make it. I think you really are...you just see yourself more critically.

And, to heal, sometimes the cut has to be deep and painful, to let out all the crap that's been bottled up in that boil.

I live in Taos New Mexico. It is a beautiful place and today was a warm 55. Yes, this is a fun idea you two had! What are you all up to tonight? For me I am off to watch a movie, not so exciting, but I am a movie freak :-).
ReplyDeleteI hope others will see how easy it is to talk like this. It's been a great time, not long enough of course, but I've got to get dinner started as well. And feed the dogs, etc. Then I think I'll sit down and watch tv, and fall asleep on the couch!

ReplyDeletemarion, i love your story here on blogland lane. i find the one thing that seems important here on the lane is to keep our posts shorter than on our normal blogs. i don't know if that is true or not but i kind of like how snappy everybody's creative offerings are.

i am watching desperate housewives later. but i have 15 client notes to type--the only bad part of my job.
