Our First Art Exchange Showing-Artist Stash Project 1

The rules were few and simple-we drew names and sent the person whose name we got some of our many bits and pieces we had stashed around the house.  The person who received the box would then create something using all or some of the bits.

My box came from Lolo (and I wish I had remembered to take a picture of it.  I know Lo, and I've followed her art, so I know her art.  I wanted to create something that was reminiscent of her, and without copying her style-which would be futile-she's incomparable!

I wanted to pay homage to her bag lady series-so I tried to think of something that was like a paper bag, but wasn't.  Now that is harder than it sounds-I came up with "Cardboard Box" tab.

She also sent some ATC-s so I wanted to do a 'series' because I've been playing in digital mediums with the same image several ways.  It's harder in 3-D.
Then I said pooh, I wanna do a paper bag.  This is my test bag where I played with different pens and stuff to see how they would react to the paper bag.The dog tag is all Lolo-I just put it on the bag and added some stuff she sent.  The only thing that I added to this one was the vinyl for the snake.  This was all accomplished this morning.  I've been playing with ideas, of course they all went out the door when I sat down, but what fun I had!  I hope we can do this again, because it was really as stretch for me to move out of my digital world and I enjoyed it very much.

Here  we have what Anne Jeffries created from KJ's stashbox.  She couldn't be with us today but sent this to me to put up.  Isn't it lovely?  I see bits of both people in this-I love it!

Art Box Exchange Gallery Opening Tomorrow

The gallery will open tomorrow at Noon CST to share your work.  I suggest you give it a few hours if you want to see the entire gallery-or just come back often as people share their work.

I will start a post.  If you are participant, you can go in and edit the post and add your own work-or if you want, e-mail the jpeg to me and I'll add it for you.

Don't be shy about posting up what you've created-the point was to take something someone else was drawn to and transform it, as well as just to share with other people on the blog.  This is a total no pressure exercise!

Art Box Exchange

Remember (it's on the side bar too) December 5th I'll create a post to post up our creations from the Art Box Exchange.  I can't wait to see what you all did with your stash items.  My head is spinning with ideas and dreams-and that's in a good way.

What?

Ok who said that??? "Dance Naked?" It's a picture I took in Seattle and at the time seemed appropriate. I think it really means dance like no one can see you~ dance like the music in your head is the only music ever~dance like you have wild abandon ~ dance.. period.... Let's just dance, slow and easy, wild and hot... just dance .... feel our bodies....

Art Box Exchange

Mim and I did this once on my blog-and it was a blast.

It's simple-go to your personal stash and pull out a few items you'd like to send to someone else.  It doesn't have to be a kit or even make sense.  "Found objects" are great-maybe you saved something but never found a place for it in your art.  Maybe you have a stash of favorite pens.  Some cloth.  Whatever.  We ALL have our artist's cache...it's ok if it's unopened, but please don't go buy stuff-the point is to use what you already have.

My suggestion is you fill up one of those postal service boxes that ship for one price.  For those of you not in the US, they are about the size of a cigar box.  But, any size box will do.

To participate-post a comment here and send me your mailing address to blogland.lane@sbcglobal.net
Don't post your mailing address here-it wouldn't be safe.

I will match up people and send your address to somebody on the list.  If you have a post office box for such things, that is fine.  I won't give your address to more than one person and I will delete the list when  the project is done.

Deadlines (ick)  Yes, we have to have them to be fair to everyone.  Deadline for getting your address to me is Sunday Oct. 25th.  You can get your box ready at that time too.

I will send out addresses via the e-mail from Blogland.lane sbc etc. on Oct. 26th.  (You will get one address only, not a group e-mail).  Please ship your box no later than October 31.

I've been involved in these group projects before, and it's no fun to be the one who waits and waits and waits.

On Saturday, December 5th-I will post a thread and we will reveal what we have created with our new stash of goodies.  You don't have to use the entire stash, and you are free to add your own stuff-but please use something FROM the stash.

My hope is this is a way to share bits of ourselves and then see how others take that bit and move forward with it.
